Dentons renews arrangement with Seraphim to host the leading global SpaceTech accelerator for start-ups in 2019

London,  May 2019 - Dentons has renewed its arrangement with Seraphim to host the Seraphim Space Camp SpaceTech accelerator programme for 2019.

Last year, Dentons was the first partner to support the programme. Dentons' London office is home for the participating companies and corporate partners during the programme. With the third cohort of leading SpaceTech start-ups scheduled to start at the beginning of May 2019, Mission #3 includes nine of the strongest global early stage SpaceTech companies. Two cohorts have previously passed through Seraphim Space Camp with many startups receiving funding and indicative offers – and 83% of participating companies expanding their teams within the following six months, equating to 49 new jobs created in the space sector.

Led by high profile investors like Richard Branson, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, 2018 was a record year for investment in space start-ups seeing private funding and competition increasing while the time taken to go to market is decreasing. Now established in the European space eco-system, the programme is designed to refine value propositions, significantly accelerate commercial activities and provide sustainable opportunities for scale up to the participating companies.

Dr Justin Hill, IP partner at Dentons in London and expert-in-residence at Seraphim Space Camp, provides the programme with resources and the start-ups with specialised IP and legal expertise to compliment the opportunities provided by the corporate partners.

He said, "It is great to be involved again. Too often we see world-class early stage businesses cutting corners on IP and other legal provisions when in reality they should be laying important foundations to support their future success. Dentons is pleased to share knowledge, provide access to our international platform and global contacts, and help secure commercial opportunities for these businesses. 2019 looks to be another exciting year for innovation in the space sector."

Rob Desborough, Director at Seraphim Space Camp, said, “We are thrilled that Dentons will be partnering with us again this year. Justin Hill was one of the first people I approached when starting the programme and has been catalytic in getting Seraphim Space Camp off the ground. We would not be where we are today without his and Dentons' support."

About Seraphim Space Camp

Space Camp is the UK’s first dedicated accelerator programme for start-ups in the SpaceTech industry. Launched by Seraphim Capital, the world’s only venture capital fund specialising exclusively in SpaceTech investment, Space Camp is backed by both the UK and European Space Agencies as well as by corporate partners such as Dentons, Rolls Royce and Cyient

Taking a “VC-mindset” approach to the accelerator concept, the founders of Space Camp believe that investment readiness should be a prerequisite for companies’ participation in the programme, not the endgame.

The Space Camp value proposition is designed to attract the ‘best of breed’, high growth technology companies that are best addressing the biggest challenges facing corporates and the wider SpaceTech industry, and to support them in achieving commercial scale by creating tangible outcomes beyond simply funding.

Space Camp is creating an ecosystem and community support network to ensure that participating start-ups are equipped to maintain their accelerated growth beyond the completion of the programme, providing mentoring from more established companies from the Seraphim Capital portfolio, opportunities to work with invested corporate partners on proof-of-concepts and other technology integrations, and ongoing access to facilities and resources in locations around the world. spacecamp.vc
